Kentucky Butter Cake

Ingredients:

For the Cake:

For the Butter Sauce:

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C).
    • Grease and flour a 10-inch bundt pan, ensuring all crevices are covered.
  2. Prepare the Cake Batter:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.
    • Add the butter, buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Beat on low speed until combined, then increase to medium speed and beat for 3 minutes until the batter is smooth and creamy.
  3. Bake the Cake:
    • Pour the batter into the prepared bundt pan.
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 60-70 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  4. Prepare the Butter Sauce:
    • While the cake is baking, combine sugar, butter, and water in a small saucepan over medium heat.
    • Cook, stirring constantly, until the butter is melted and the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Add the Butter Sauce:
    • When the cake is done baking, remove it from the oven and immediately poke holes all over the cake using a skewer or toothpick.
    • Pour the butter sauce over the hot cake, allowing it to soak into the holes.
    • Let the cake cool in the pan for at least 30 minutes, then invert onto a serving plate.
  6. Serve:
    • Slice and serve the Kentucky Butter Cake as is or with a dusting of powdered sugar on top.
